Class One – Reception
Class One is our reception class – covering Foundation Stage
Welcome to Class 1 - Reception
In Class 1 our Reception children have lots of opportunities to play, explore, investigate, experiment and learn in both our inside and outdoor classrooms. We encourage the children to develop skills and knowledge through lots of playful and hands on experiences.
- • Autumn 1: Welcome to Reception and what makes me a me?
• Autumn 2: It’s getting cold outside
• Spring 1: Wild about animals!
• Spring 2: Let’s get building and Spring is in the air!
• Summer 1: Growing, growing, growing
• Summer 2: Let’s go on a journey
Throughout the year we also plan activities outside of the classroom. Each Wednesday we go on a welly walk, initially in the school grounds and then later in the surrounding area. We also go on school trips to investigate and learn about the local area.
Communication
Class DoJo can be used to send messages and photos for show and tell time to Mrs Horton. Please also feel free have a chat after school or arrange a time for a meeting.
Reading books
Each week the children bring home a class library book for you to enjoy together. When the children are ready they will also bring home reading books that they can read to their family.
Please return reading books to school on a Friday. New reading books will be sent home for the week on a Monday.
Homework
Phonics
Phonics homework will consolidate your child’s learning in class and give them the opportunity to practise their new skills. Reading books are also closely linked to their phonics learning in school.
Maths
Each child has their own account on Numbots. The games and challenges help to build the children’s speed and confidence in working with numbers.
Each week there will also be some games and activities to complete that develop our learning in class.
Topic
From time to time the children will be asked to complete a game or activity linked to our topic work.
PE
We have PE sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. Please can children wear their PE kit to school. Our PE session on Wednesday focuses on riding the balance bikes. On Thursday we use imaginative play, story telling and songs to develop multi-skills.
Snacks and drinks
The children are given a water bottle when they join the school. This will be kept in school during the week and replenished daily or more often as required. We will send the water bottle home on a Friday for a thorough clean.
The children have a snack time each day where they sit at the tables and talk to their friends. This is a chance to enjoy a piece of fruit and drink of milk or water. The children have access to their water bottles throughout the day.
