Weekly News – 27.02.20
A round-up of the latest school news for week ending 27/2/2020.
Weekly News
World Book Day
World Book Day is Thursday 5 March. This year we are doing things slightly differently. On Wednesday 4 March, we have 2 authors coming in to school to work with all the children. On World Book Day itself, the Reception children will be dressing up as their favorite book character. For Years 1 to 6, instead of dressing up they will be making book hats in school and taking part in other activities.
Parents’ evening
Timetables for parents’ evening will be on display in the school office from next Monday. Please come in and book a slot to see your child’s class teacher. Parents’ evening takes place on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 March from 3.30 p.m. onwards. If you cannot get in to school to book a time please call or email Mrs Thirlaway in the office with your preferred slot and she can check the timetables for you.
School payments
There are still payments outstanding on the Gateway for breakfast club, music lessons and school trips. Please log on to the Schoolcomms Gateway or speak to Mrs Thiraway to check whether you have anything outstanding. The end of the financial year is fast approaching and we would appreciate all outstanding payments sorted by the end of March. Thank you.
Class 4 PGL payments
The final balance needs to be paid by 23 March, please ensure you have checked your outstanding balance and made your payment by this date.
Final information for the trip will be made available next month.
Sickness & Diarrhoea
Can we please remind parents that if your child has sickness and/or diarrhoea they should not be sent back in to school until 48 from the last episode. Please follow the link to read NHS advice.

Coronavirus
We are getting daily updates in to school on the spread of the Coronovirus. Please follow the attached link for more information. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public
Behaviour management in school
We changed our approach to behaviour management almost a year ago and feel that the majority of pupils are responding positively to this. The stepped system gives individual children the chance to reflect on their actions and for staff to directly support children to make better choices. For further information on our policy and approach please see the school website.
Jewellery and hair accessories
Please can we remind you that children should not be wearing jewellery in school, this includes necklaces, bracelets and rings. Only children in Year 5/6 are allowed to wear watches. Long hair should be tied back and all hair bands should be in school colours. Thank you.
PTA news
The last cake / stationary / second hand uniform sale raised £79.63 for PTA funds. Thank you to everyone who attended and to the PTA for organising.
DIY Day – this Saturday is DIY day in school. Thank you to Kate Drysdale for organising this and to our parent volunteers. These days are very important to the school as our maintenance budget is very limited and we would struggle to get a lot of the jobs done without the very generous help of the PTA and parents.
Have you lost a phone?
A Samsung Galaxy S7 phone has been found on the Wolverton Road about 100 yards up from the school (past the Blacon track, on the grass verge, where the slow down sign is), If you think this might be yours please contact
Taz Dearnley or the school office.
Slice of Science Sunday 8th March 1 – 4pm
To celebrate both Science Week and International Women’s Day, the University of Warwick is holding a free event to share the wonders of science with primary school girls and their families. The university’s female researchers and students will be running a range of talks, interactive drop-in workshops and tabletop activities for all ages, served alongside complimentary afternoon tea. All the details are in the leaflet which can be picked up in the school office – it looks like a great event.
Kind regards
