Wolverton School Admissions Policy

Admission Arrangements for 2012 Admissions

Wolverton Primary School accepts children in the age range 4+ to 11.  Children will be admitted without reference to gender, race, religion, disability, aptitude or ability.  Children will normally be admitted into the Reception class at the start of the autumn term following their fourth birthday.

The admissions number, based on school capacity, is 15. In the event of over-subscription the school follows the criteria for admission used by Warwickshire County Council for Community and Controlled Primary Schools:

  1. Children in the care of, or provided with, accommodation by, a local authority (under Section 22 of the Children Act 1989).

  1. Children living in the priority area who have a sibling at the school at the time of admission.

  1. Other children living in the priority area.

  1. Children living outside the priority area who have a sibling at the school at the time of admission.

  1. Other children living outside the priority area.

Within each criterion priority is given in order of distance between the child’s home and school (shortest distance = highest priority), which will be measured by the Local Authority Admissions Services.  Distance will be calculated by the straight line measurement from the address point location co-ordinate of the applicant’s home address (as set by Ordnance Survey) to the centre point (‘centroid’) of the preferred school.  (All measurements are subject to prepositional accuracy changes).

Note 1.  The priority area comprises the Parishes of Wolverton and Norton Lindsey and the hamlet of Gannaway Gate.  The village of Langley is shared with Claverdon Primary School.

Note 2. Definitions applying to all criteria are identical to those used by the Local Authority.

The Local Authority operates a centralised system of admissions to Reception classes in Warwickshire.  In the October prior to the year of entry, the school

will inform the Admissions Service of parents who have registered an interest with the school.  As a foundation school the governors are the Admissions Authority but receive a list of applicants to which the above criteria for entry will be applied.  The Admissions Service will then make offers to the parents of successful applicants.

Parents who wish to appeal against the decision of the governors to refuse their child a place in the school may apply in writing to the Chair of Governors, c/o the school.

A form for registration of interest is provided at the back of the prospectus, and this should be completed and returned to the school office as soon as possible.  The Local Authority operates a centralised system of admissions to Reception classes in Warwickshire.  In the October prior to the year of entry, the school will inform the Admissions Service of parents who have registered an interest and you will receive the booklet ‘Primary Schools in South Warwickshire’, which contains a preference form.  You should record on that form your preference order of schools for which you wish your child to be considered and send it back to the Admissions Service.  As a foundation school the governors are the Admissions Authority and will receive lists and copies of the preference forms to which the above criteria for entry will be applied.  The Admissions Service will then make offers to the parents of successful applicants.

Parents who wish to appeal against the decision of the governors to refuse their child a place in the school may apply in writing to the Chair of Governors, c/o the school.
